FISH maintains a Food Pantry at Hill Funeral Home. Each food call costs FISH about $63.00 to provide fresh milk, bread, eggs, fruits and produce in addition to purchases from the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan and donated items. Also, when available, hygiene/, paper, laundry/cleaning products. Food calls have risen 150% in the past 10 years from 146 in 2005 to 359 in 2015 with FISH providing foods for more than 1,400 people annually. Recipients must live within Grand Blanc School District and eligible 3 times a year.
The closet provides free children’s clothing sizes infant to High School and distributes clothing for 40-45 persons per month. (If school is closed, it is open the 2nd Wednesday of month.) Donations may be taken to the Perry Center during school hours.
The Spring Drive is held the Saturday before Memorial Day weekend. The Fall Drive which is partnered with Bauman’s Running Center is held in November the Saturday before Thanksgiving.
Baskets are available to qualifying families thru community sponsorships. They include a holiday meal and sufficient food quantities to carry families through the Christmas break. Also included are, hygiene, paper, laundry and cleaning products. Gifts are purchased for the children as well. The suggested average cost for sponsorship (depending on family size) starts at $125 to purchase basket items and $75-85 per child in gifts/clothing items. Through the generosity of donations,FISH provides a back pack to each child containing school supplies that include pens, pencils, crayons, glue, scissors, paper, notebooks, etc.
Back Packs are distributed in August prior to the school year beginning. Recipients receive new shoes or a gift certificates towards the purchase of shoes, and a visit to the Clothes Closet where they also are given 2 new outfits including underwear and socks as inventory allows.
A Community-wide new/gently used Shoe Drive is conducted each Spring to stock the Clothes Closet for the following school year.
